AUTUMN IS HERE & WINTER IS ON ITS WAY– DOES THIS MEAN KNOTWEED GOES AWAY?

The leaves are starting to fall, the days are now beginning to shorten, the air is that little sharper in the morning and the darkening nights are appearing. We can feel the changes in the season; Autumn is here. It isn’t just us that feels the cold, damp and frost… Japanese Knotweed feels the change of weather too.

As we move into the cooler Autumn months, Knotweed hides away and prepares for the dormant period ahead.  Sadly, Japanese Knotweed does not vanish during Winter, it just ‘plays dead’ above ground. However, beneath the ground, the large rhizome system (roots) hold on to all the energy it accumulated throughout the summer months. The energy the plant converted is stored deep in the rhizome system, where they rest, ready to make a dramatic return in Spring.

Applying a herbicide treatment now in Autumn can take-over the plants own biological system to draw the herbicide chemical deep into the network of rhizomes. The transfer of herbicide deep into rhizome will have a huge impact on the plant and its viability next year.

Don’t leave it till next year, Knotweed doesn’t disappear during cooler months, start herbicide treatments now.

Knotweed Services (UK) LTD are here to help and to reassure you.
