Unknown to landlords, agents and property owners for almost 20 years, Japanese knotweed is now spreading like wildfire in and around Selly Oak. It’s so bad that even the University of Birmingham campus has become infected!
Due to a lack of education regarding Japanese Knotweed and it’s characteristics (Find out more here), students have inadvertently caused Japanese knotweed to spread by cutting it and employing the wrong treatment methods. Similarly, agents and landlords have hired gardeners and other landscaping companies to help, but they too, haven’t been educated regarding Japanese Knotweed and have also caused this invasive weed to spread.
You cannot just cut Japanese knotweed. You cannot just treat it with over the counter pesticides. As the residents of Selly Oak have learned, Japanese Knotweed will spread and will cause havoc. The rate at which Japanese knotweed has spread in Selly oak is frightening (see pictures below for the evidence). It has caused structural damage to both patios and out buildings!
