Japanese knotweed treatment Dorset

As one of the leading Japanese knotweed removal companies serving Dorset, Knotweed Services offers prompt, efficient removal of the troublesome weed, at a price that won’t financially ruin you.

We are accredited by the PCA, a government-approved trade body for “the damp, waterproofing, wood preservation and invasive weeds industries.” We are experienced in Japanese knotweed removal.

For knotweed eradication to be successful, identification, surveying, treatment, and prevention must occur. Our company can help you by providing these services.

How to Identify Japanese Knotweed

Knotweed Services has extensive experience in all areas of Japanese knotweed management and can provide you with the expert advice you need.

If you’re a home owner and concerned about whether your mortgage provider will lend against your property, we can help by carrying out a survey and providing you with the management plan you need for Japanese Knotweed control and to move your sale or purchase forward.

If you’re a commercial land or property owner and Japanese Knotweed is present, your project may end up being delayed until your infestation is addressed correctly and legally.

Protect Your Property from Japanese Knotweed

  • Japanese knotweed can grow through tarmac and concrete, posing a threat to the structure of buildings and properties. It’s not the ornamental plant people thought initially thought it was.
  • Lenders usually won’t give mortgages on houses where Japanese Knotweed is present.
  • Knotweed grows out of control, blocking both visibility and access to paths, highways and other infrastructure—especially for commercial properties.

Knotweed Services offers a guarantee against re-infection for customers in Dorset who have Japanese Knotweed. We will remove the plant in its entirety and transfer it to a disposal site.

— TREATMENT OPTIONS AVAILABLE IN Dorset

SOIL SCREENING

Hundreds of sites in Dorset and the UK adopt this strategy.

Screening separates Japanese knotweed rhizome from soil. Japanese knotweed is either transported to an approved landfill at a cheaper disposal rate or burnt on site under an Environment Agency or Natural Resources Wales D6 exemption.

The treated soils are often utilised in soft landscaping areas.

This can reduce landfill & backfill expenses and a sites carbon footprint due to fewer vehicle trips to landfill.

BIOSECURITY SUPERVISION

Knotweed Services can supply a biosecurity operative to supervise Japanese knotweed excavations.

We can create a biosecurity boot wash and machine-washing station at the site’s entrance.  We’ll offer toolbox talks for the site’s chief contractor, which will be signed by all contractors.

We can install temporary geotextile barriers in biosecurity-sensitive regions.

After the work is done, we’ll send a biosecurity report. This approach can be utilised alongside other treatments on site.

EXCAVATION AND DISPOSAL

This treatment procedure is suitable when time is limited and Japanese Knotweed and polluted soil must be removed to a licenced landfill.

By eradicating all evidence of the infestation swiftly, your business project can begin nearly immediately. No Japanese Knotweed removal/treatment method is faster. Japanese Knotweed root systems are removed completely.

Any off-site waste is transferred by a licensed waste carrier to an authorised landfill.

Japanese Knotweed Cell Burial

CELL BURIAL

Cell burial involves transporting Knotweed-contaminated soil from one site location to another and burying it in a hole lined with a root barrier membrane.

Japanese Knotweed burial requirements:

  • The Environment Agency proposes a 2-meter-deep burial chamber.
  • Overall, the burial pit should be 5 metres deep. All root barrier seams are welded together to construct a cell that Japanese Knotweed can’t escape. Clean soil is subsequently utilised to backfill the cell.
  • To minimise unintentional damage of the burial site, all site plans should show its position.

STOCKPILE & TREAT

Bunding moves polluted Japanese Knotweed soil to a separate site area. A bund is a shallow region of polluted soil, typically 0.5m deep.

The bund can be elevated or buried to be flush with the surrounding region.

The bund moves Japanese Knotweed to unused land. This “buys time” so that the Japanese Knotweed can be treated in a way that wouldn’t be possible where it was before. Our Japanese Knotweed Specialists will be on-hand at all times.

HERBICIDE APPLICATION

Knotweed Services may provide tailored treatment programmes based on the location of Japanese knotweed.

These plans can be used with other treatments that limit access to pedestrians, such as embankments or existing routes.

This will generally consist of up to 3 visits per year to apply herbicide by foliar spray or stem injection during the growing season for a period of 3 years, with a monitoring period of 2 years thereafter.

We would choose pesticides based on surrounding foliage, bio diversity or environmental conditions.

After each visit, a detailed treatment record with images showing progress and a yearly report are provided.
