Interesting knotweed find today…

A Bit of History!

The knotweed in the pictures above and below is located in a void between a shopping centre that was constructed in 1978 and then the multistorey car park was upgraded and opened in 1990.

The concrete area looks untouched since that time, the area is behind a locked door that took ages just to find the key to open it. No real chance of fly-tipping, you could climb to the top of the roof and drop waste down but you would need a real head for heights and climbing equipment!!

So if the building was constructed on top of knotweed and it had found it’s way out between the very small gap of concrete and building, then that would suggest the knotweed has either been dormant since the late 1970’s or late 1980’s early 1990’s??

Either way that’s a long dormancy period.

What’s everyone’s opinion on the origins of this one?
